![]() ![]() Minimize VLC, then perform the tasks on your computer that you want to record. I want to avoid streaming from machine to machine and simplify this as much as possible. Open VLCs 'Media' menu and click 'Open Capture Device.' Select 'Desktop' from the 'Capture Mode' menu and click 'Play.' Click the recording button to start recording. You may experience different issues if the VLC media player is not working. Leave the rest as it is and then click on the Convert/Save button or just hit enter in your keyboard. Click on the Add button to browse for the files that you want to add. but i want to do the playing and recording on the same machine. Here is how you convert video using VLC Media Player: From VLC menu bar click on Media > Convert/ Save Shortcut: CTRL + R Open Media dialog box is opened. Is this possible through VLC without an additional program? Or is this only possible with another kind of capture program? I know i can stream a video from one computer to another. You can select a local video, check 'Show more options' and you can specify a start and end time to clip from the video. I used the Media -> Convert / Save dialog to do it. ![]() I don't want to lose any quality at all, and the video has audio. I couldnt get audio to work when using the record button on a local video either. ![]() since the file plays fine through VLC for about an hour i want to somehow RECORD (or capture) the first hour of what i'm viewing and save that to a new file. so i do believe there are serious problems with the file itself. I believe there is something wrong with the headers, or something in general wrong with the file because it appears to be 20gigs in size and i'm unable to play it through any media player except VLC! When played through VLC It plays about half way and then the rest of the file is just black with no audio. I need to chop it up into about 10 different files but the file size is so large that i'm unable to load it into any kind of video editor ( i have tried sony vegas pro, as well as a number of other video editors). I have a very large mpg file that i'm trying to edit. ![]()
